I won’t ever try to convince anyone to not decide to utilize Accutane if it’s something they truly want to do. HOWEVER, I can absolutely educate my clients about the side effects and risks.
Accutane is essentially a large dose of Vitamin A and is used to clear acne. It can make you dry, dehydrated and sensitizes the skin making the skin sensitive to the sun as well as most active ingredients and products. That being said make sure you are staying hydrated, wearing your SPF, and using only the most gentle and hydrating products while on Accutane.
While Accutane can absolutely clear acne, it does not clear pigmentation and scarring, nor does it essentially get to the true root of the problem when it comes to acne, and what causes it.
Typically, I am not able to treat clients who have been on Accutane for pigmentation and scarring until 6 months to one year of being off the prescription drug due to the sensitizing of the skin.
Before deciding to take the leap to taking Accutane I highly recommend researching all avenues when it comes to treating acne.
If you are struggling with acne and are considering another option, the @freespirit_esthetics Acne Program is a great option. It takes 90 days at a minimum to achieve clear skin. We not only clear acne but also address the scarring and pigmentation at the same time.
If you are interested in the Acne Program, my website has a tab about the program that goes in depth about acne and how we treat it.
If you have been on Accutane in the past and experienced any of the side effects listed or ones not listed, I would love for you to share your story in the comments👇🏼
